We are looking for a Heavy Lifting Engineer/Supervisor to join our client’s project team. This role, based in Antwerp with on-site responsibilities in Zeebrugge, is essential for coordinating lifting operations and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards on-site. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing subcontractors and ensuring effective execution of heavy-lifting activities.
Function
- Maintain coordination with other discipline supervisors/superintendents working in the area to manage activities and related interferences.
- Organize activities in close collaboration with the line Construction Manager/Discipline Superintendent, ensuring continuity through information sharing and teamwork.
- Ensure that materials used in construction comply with project technical documents, codes, and specifications and that stock levels meet the work schedule.
- Monitor the productivity of subcontractor activities concerning quality and quantity (in collaboration with Project Control).
- Ensure all assigned activities are completed on time, addressing deficiencies promptly with the Construction Manager/Discipline Superintendent to define and implement corrective actions.
- Verify and discuss modifications or discrepancies in activities with the Construction Manager/Discipline Superintendent and Field Project Engineer, cooperating to issue Sketches Layout (SKL) for relevant modifications when work must differ from the drawings.
- Propose improvement solutions that arise during work execution and assist the Field Project Engineer in responding to subcontractor site queries.
- Record modifications after approval and, in cooperation with the Construction Manager/Discipline Superintendent, inform the Subcontract Administrator of contractual changes.
- Prepare and complete the Request for Work Execution (R.W.E.) form for any extra work not included in the contract or for field modifications, securing further approvals before execution, as per the Subcontracting Department procedure.
- Confirm that subcontractors work based on the latest editions of all drawings and technical documents (with the Construction QC Inspector).
- Verify subcontractor manpower presence on-site using the "Manpower Presence Report" (with Subcontracting Management).
- Check, sign, and collect all subcontractor time sheets for hourly reimbursement work.
- Prepare/check subcontractor's monthly/weekly progress and transmit relevant data to Project Control.
- Proactively ensure that no holds occur for subcontractor work due to a lack of required engineering documents, materials, or accessibility to work areas to avoid subcontractor claims (with Project Control and Field Engineer).
- Prepare and issue Construction and Final Punch Lists to subcontractors, following up on the completion of outstanding work until final acceptance by the client.
- Verify subcontractor field surveying and establish reference benchmarks for elevation and alignment as per the scope of work, ensuring correct execution.
- Ensure subcontractors adhere to the approved Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and that inspections are conducted timely per project procedures.
- Collaborate and support QC Inspector colleagues during related inspections.
- Identify possible non-conformities per the Quality Assurance System Procedure and suggest corrective actions.
- Maintain a daily Site Diary.
- Ensure safe working practices related to lifting operations in close liaison with the Safety Officer, informing them of proposed work areas and activities.
- Familiarize with arrangements for heavy lifts and responsibilities according to project requirements.
- Ensure the Lifting Check List is completed correctly in coordination with other discipline supervisors before lifting operations.
- Confirm the Crane Check List is accurately completed and that the crane is positioned per the Lifting Plot Plan.
- Maintain close liaison with the heavy lift contractor representative who controls all lifting operations.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in erecting and operating machines to hoist and convey machinery and equipment, such as structural beams and metal tanks, at construction sites.
- Monitor daily progress in the assigned area and keep records of installed quantities.
- Evaluate contractor lifting studies.
- Oversee and supervise all field lifting operations and trades tests for contractor riggers as required.
- Inspect all lifting equipment to ensure proper testing and certification per applicable codes and regulations.
- Review schedules for cranes and riggers.
- Inspect the quality of work daily, ensuring adherence to drawing data and specifications.
- Monitor the movement of any abnormal loads on-site, ensuring safe traverses using authorized routes. Anticipate material delivery requirements.
- Rig items of equipment for erection to the crane/lifting equipment using recommended ‘Lifting Points’ per the method statement.
- Prepare and follow up on the call-off for the crane contractor in coordination with other discipline supervisors and requests from other subcontractors.
- Manage access to the construction site and circulation within the site, preparing and following up on necessary permits for circulation, road closures, and area holds as per site procedures.
- Check and follow up on studies, permits, and activities for special and non-special transport to and from the construction site from barges, warehouses, and storage areas.
Requirements
- Proven interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer literacy (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.).
- Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
- Works with integrity and ethically, upholding organizational values.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Solid background in the relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction site management.
- Possession of VCA-vol certification.
